There’s also a lot of research coming out that it lessens our brain activity. I’m already pissed at social media and the grab it has on me and my life and I know the manufacturers of it have made it as addictive as it is to limit our individual capabilities. Gen AI is a step further preventing us from having original thoughts and challenging ourselves.

The same mantra has been said about a lot of technological and industrial progress before. The argument that we functioned for a long time without AI is absurd. We functioned for a long time without planes, cars, phones of computers. Should we go without those as well? Though many people are very adamant about the negatives of artificial intelligence, the majority just feel apathy.

I agree I think existing without it would be a null point but in saying that youre failing to recognize the harm it does to mental function and development, this post in particular didnt discuss it, but theres been a number of studies done already that show extreme and concerning decline in mental function in those who regularly use ai and it hasnt even been around that long

We dont know what these negatives could turn into long term nor do we even know if theyre reversible. It can be helpful but we have to ask if the damage to ourselves and our world is worth it. Its not just killing the planet its killing our minds and the data centers polluting our water can eventually kill us. Theres a larger picture to consider here

I think you are digging for negatives because you’re scared of the unknowns

No, I'm actually generally speaking pretty neutral on generative ai. I support its use in a lot of regards I just think its not something that should be unregulated in the hands of everyone considering its already proving net negative on the general population and environment. I just like to consider both sides as I think overall peoples education on what its actually doing is extremely lacking

I had a stupid math question related to volume (how many Hershey bars I could fit in a 10x10x10ft box) and was googling the volumes of things so I could calculate by hand and feel the satisfaction of figuring it out, when my friend just typed it into chat and gave me a number. No satisfaction. No challenging myself with this dumb question. Just immediate feedback. I hate that we are as impatient as we are. I hate how complacent we are becoming. Ugh I hate it all.

I agree that regulation is the way to go with most emerging technologies. But I think a lot of people are too busy boycotting or ignoring tech no actually take a look at the legislation being passed. There are volumes of internet privacy policies but most people don’t even realize it

We also have to recognize that there is a lot of theft, plagiarism, and sexual content within AI. It being rolled out to the public in the way it has hasn’t allowed for any real prevention options to take root. So many of these companies are just worried about money and don’t care about actually helping people but rather keeping them engaged and returning. It should be a private business. And it should be dealing with logistics and code, not art and creativity.

People are also losing their jobs, and these companies are getting richer. There is not money going back into our economy and soon it will be apparent that AI really only benefits the ultra wealthy

That’s exactly what regulation would help with

And technology never causes unemployment. Companies will use the money they save by firing redundant workers to create new departments, and thus new roles. People have been worried about this for centuries but no one’s actually loses jobs long term

That’s a scared answer. Also in regards to you talking about “that’s why regulations need to be made” awhile ago Instagram noticed their AI chat bots were not as popular as others, they realized it was because of the safety features they had put up. They pulled all safety and their bots began having sexual conversations with minors, or would make up SA stories including minor characters. AI companies do not care about us, they care about engagement and money. The leopards will eat your face too

And no, it doesn’t apply to “any” job, some jobs are being taken off the market completely. There may be “new jobs” but if you spend 20+ years doing one thing, losing your job and having to completely restart at age 40+, that’s not easy. Not to mention, most of these replacements aren’t doing the work better, they’re just doing the work for cheaper. My friend has their degree in computer science, he is training AI to take his job. Once he’s no longer needed, his degree will be meaningless.

You can’t claim neutrality when you actively post anti-AI posters with depictions of you ripping up fictional robots. It’s fine if you now suddenly hold this position but the claim and your actions don’t match.

1. Graphically disorganized. Why are all the text boxes so visually inconsistent? What determines which words are bold/in-color? Surely there's another way to convey the information without the information itself being hard to read. 2. Statistics are hard to quantify. Why should I care about 4g of CO2? 3000 car trips daily seems really negligible. Wtf is Danville, CA? 3. "We've functioned without Ai" is not a compelling argument to people who use Ai. Humanity has functiond w/o cars, phones, etc

Long story short: if i were a Chatgpt user, nothing here would capture my attention that would make me feel concered about my Ai usage. There's little ethos/pathos appeal. If the situation is dire, why doesn't it feel dire?

Ding ding ding! This feels like a middle school argument project to me (no hate to the maker obviously I just think it doesnt achieve its purpose) disorganized and lacking any actual draw to the argument itself, I 100% agree
