Do you think it is irresponsible for a freshman to secretly get a pet in a pet free campus apartment? They have roommates and the apartment is also used by those with asthma.

YES 1000% and if they get caught they might resort to selling the animal to someone who doesn’t have the pet’s best wishes in mind!

I had a fish my sophomore year and it was probably annoying to my suitemates at the time but it wasn’t the worst, and it was well taken care of. My junior year roommate got two rats in the middle of the semester, they smelled horrible, shit everywhere anytime they were let out of the cage, and one had a stroke and died like a week into it so they only had the one rat and then it had a cold right as they were leaving for a week so I had to take care of it and and try to give it it’s rat medicine

This was a HUGE deal at my school. These people were outside the dorms selling golden retriever puppies and a bunch of people bought them (idk what was going on, like 10-20 people bought a puppy in my dorm) and they all got found out in a week and had to get rid of them. ALL OF THEM HAD TO GET RID OF THESE PUPPIES!! Half went to shelters and half were given away/resold. Fking crazy

I’m not mad at the rats tho they were helpless, this person just had other issues and they didn’t consult any of our other roommates who shared the apartment when we already had a cat living there

Yeah I feel that my freshman year roommate got a cat without telling us and then would be gone for days. The kitten would poop in her room and meow all the time because she wouldn’t clean the litter box or take care of it. She would lie and say she didn’t have a cat while we could hear and see it. Ended up reporting her to the office.

But I love rats and I am going to get some but only after I talked to my roommates and I have my own room in an off campus apartment.

I kept pet rolly pollies, hermit crabs, and hissing cockroaches. They weren’t a big deal. Was practically like having a potted plant. Depends on the pet, but when people say pet i assume mammal and that’s irresponsible.
