Linux refers to a family of open source operating systems that act as alternatives to major closed source operating systems like Windows and MacOS.

I like MacOS especially because some of my apps only work on it, so no for me, but I totally get Linux's appeal

Literally I got enough problems running software I don’t need to add “Linux” to the reason of why shits not working.

I just know that some games will only work on windows, and don’t have enough reason to use linux to justify dual booting

If you’re reasonably good at using and troubleshooting an operating system like Windows then you’re proficient enough to make the switch. Linux is at the point where there are versions designed to be as Windows or Mac-like to ease the transition, such as Linux Mint, and having to go to the command line is largely unnecessary.

They might be dual-booting, or use Linux at home and Windows for work. My work laptop has Windows because I am unfortunately required to use the Microsoft ecosystem to do my job, so I’d wager that many people are in the same boat.

Do you count chromebooks as Linux? Chrome OS is technically Linux based

I’d say no for the purposes of this poll.

No. That’s not “switching” anything.

Well you had to buy the Chromebook, just like switching to Mac would require buying a Mac

Literally every smart home device run Linux

I’d argue that ChromeOS is not Linux *in spirit* due to its mostly closed-source nature and integration of proprietary Google products. To me, Chromebooks are Linux in the same way that smart TVs are Linux. Technically true, but not keeping in the spirit of it.

Chrome OS itself is open source, Google evens allows you to run native Linux apps but you need to enable it, the Google services online are not open source

Isn’t the DE closed source though? That’s a pretty big part of the OS.

“I haven’t seen it so it can’t be true” solid argument

Chrome OS doesn't have a desktop environment, if your talking about the Windows manager, it is open source
