The AI bubble isn’t going to burst just because we stop using it lol. The AI bubble is about the U.S. being the first to achieve a fully functional, REAL AI before China can. That’s pretty much it. These AI companies are hemorrhaging money every year, but the government keeps subsidizing them in hopes that true AI is possible. That’s the point. None of this is gonna stop regardless of what choices we make individually.
I don’t obsess over societal trends, actually. I just believe AI is individually useful. I also hold the belief that we, individually, make no difference as to how much of the world AI destroys. Our usage of AI doesn’t even COMPARE to the amount of energy wasted training AI, and the societal harm in that. My point is they’ll continue to churn out their slop regardless of whether we’re interested or not. Because they see long-term profits in application. That’s it.
This isn’t like the plastic crisis where I genuinely believe individuals CAN make a difference, this is a geopolitical issue more than an environmental issue. Our individual choices don’t matter. As long as the government sees AI as a valuable tool, then their actions will lead to the environmental harm. We’re just a fraction of that, and that fraction isn’t cost effective to preserve
