Yeah. Thats why scientists are trying to bring them back. If you released them into the frozen tundras they’ll help compact down snow significantly slowing climate change and protecting the tundra. They’d also prevent tree growth in some areas which sounds counterproductive but it encourages grasslands which store more carbon and protects a dying ecosystem

I feel like we’d be better off trying to selectively breed a very hairy elephant than to bring back the wooly mammoth through cloning but either way it’d take a long time

I still cry when I think about the desperation of researchers trying to beg fisherman not to continue harming them, for years, until they realized it was too late ☹️ humans suck sometimes

Oh my god I think about them from time to time like. We made them dependent on us for survival and then abandoned them as pests 💔

We are actually doing a mix of booth. We aren’t bringing a genetically identical wooly mammoth back, we are changing and inserting dna into regular elephants the same way we did to bring back dire wolves
