Imo demonstrating explains enough to people who aren’t trying to learn the intricacies of how the vocal cords, mouth, and everything else involved make that happen. If you can isolate the two with your voice, generally people get it

Incorrect! Pitch is the note and tone refers to the darkness or brightness of the sound. Not sure how to explain tone other than using examples: yawns have a dark tone, whereas nasally ee sounds typically have a bright tone. Another example, Adele typically has fairly dark tonality in her singing, whereas Britney Spears has a very bright tonality in her singing
