When my friends that I know have diff views try I said ‘I would prefer to keep it light’, and avoid it. Neither of you are going to change each other’s opinions, but that’s okay! If he can’t move past that then you don’t deserve a friend like that. I would avoid it, shut it down, & change the topic :-)
