If you’re Christian, do you really believe in the stories or are they just to teach you lessons? For example, do you really think Jonah was swallowed by a whale or that Noah actually put all those animals on the ark?

Some of them are real, some of them are metaphors, some of them mean something else or are trying to teach a lesson/moral

Not a christian but if you believe your god is all-powerful and can do literally anything it seems weird to cherry pick which parts of the book you believe and which parts you call metaphorical. It looks bad on yall when the book says something happened and yall go "nah i don't believe it, it's too hard for my guy, must be a metaphor"

I believe with God anything is possible, so in my opinion all the stories are literal.

i think it depends. i believe noah actually did the ark but i believe jonah died and came back, not that he was swallowed by a large fish

If you believe that the events are true then it contradicts the bible. We would see geological evidence of a flood of the size described in the bible, but for some reason there isn’t any…

Simple those areas were submerged in water at one point in time. Water levels can change over millions of years

What makes you prefer one hypothesis (massive flood) over the widely accepted one? (changing water levels and tectonic plates)

Mountains were once on the seabed, and were uplifted by tectonic plates. Marine fossils on the top of mountains are fascinating, so thanks for the reply. The layers of the earth would reflect a catastrophic event of that size, but don’t.

observed throughout history and not evidence for a global flood, fossils are only there cause of tectonic shifts
