Most people’s parents can afford it more than their kids can, considering they’ve had decades to save up. And I’ve found that even those who can’t really afford it still do, due to some weird sense of duty.

That's really interesting...I wonder why my parents aren't helping me at all despite making six figures and having made money from selling houses

Maybe they’re trying to teach independence? I know some parents do that to get their kids used to having to pay bills and be employed and such.
