Idk, I love Austin but I don’t think they consider themselves the south. Nor do northerners think of Austin when they think of the south.
I guess this applies to Texas in general too (they are their own thing).

I hear you, it's interesting to see debates around whether people see Texas as Southern or not. As someone from the South, my anecdotal experience is non-Southerners I meet see Texas as Southern and Southerners I meet do not. I'm curious what stat data shows

Yeah totally it’s interesting, def wasn’t trying to be argumentative.
I even see Wikipedia lists Baltimore as a southern city 😂 As someone relatively close to there, I had never heard of such a thing either from locals or visitors from the Deep South.

And you're right about Wikipedia doing that! From my understanding, it is because technically, the US Census considers the South anything Maryland and more South of it
