Answer: England was NOT founded by Rome. The island was colonized by Rome, but they pulled out in 410 and the island was later settled by the Anglo-saxons from Germany (Anglo-land = England)

For clarification, the Duke of Normandy conquered England in 1066, making him both a king and a duke. The royal language changed to French, and this is why English has a lot of French words and syntax and it’s also why we don’t name our kids Aethelwold anymore

No king lionheart defended French lands that were also owned by his family, but two important points: 1 the kings of England after 1066 were ALSO Dukes of Normandy in France. Those lands weren’t technically English, they were still subject to the French monarchy 2 lionheart was mostly defending his land from being taken. Henry the fifth actually claimed the French crown, not just French lands
