If you get an arranged/forced marriage in a 3rd world country and the US government doesn’t recognize the marriage, would finding a new partner count as cheating to you?

Some third world countries have patriarchy and don’t allow women to refuse marriage or even initiate divorce so I say it doesn’t count as cheating

Idgaf what the us government says or if you’re legally married. If you’re in a closed relationship then it’s cheating, if not then it’s not

If it’s a forced marriage then no, you didn’t want to be in that relationship in the first place so if you are now seeking a new partner then you clearly didn’t make a connection or anything

Arranged marriage don't count imo, majority of them do not remotely like their spouse. Also it's a bs cultural thing

Like 90% I would say yes but there are circumstances where I would say no

but does it count if it’s a relationship they never consented to and were forced into? is a closed relationship not the result of consent and agreement between the two involved parties?

It might be less wrong to cheat in that situation, but it is still cheating

to me what makes something cheating is a breach of trust and violation of an agreement made, i think both parties have to consent to being in an exclusive relationship and in the case of a forced marriage either 1 or both parties were forced or coerced into it. an agreement made under duress is null and void imo, so in an ethics sense it’s not cheating. it might be an extramarital affair, it might be legally considered adultery, but they don’t deserve to be called a cheater
