Printing currency with your country’s CURRENT leader on it, is an authoritarian thing to do.

Unless it was a tradition from the beginning like maybe it’s your first leader ever, but other than that absolutely authoritarian

No there are literally zero legal implications. Just because something is egotistical doesn’t mean it’s authoritarian. Political ideologies aren’t determined by “vibes”

It reallly depends how they are perceived and the context, like if we are honoring a very good leader to a country sure good for you but if they printed one with trump on it that is straight up ew

I was about to say it’s only appropriate for exceptional leaders that have a monumentally positive impact on their country. Like Nelson Mandela. But even then, it does a disservice to their selfless contribution to glorify them like that during their presidency. Along the same ethos that Washington refused a third term. Let time be the legacy that honors them in reverent reflection.

I think in any context, it’s wrong. Wait till they die. Even if every single person loves them

Fair point, there is no place on earth that puts every leader on currency, except for monarchies

Creating the note before they left can only be net negative. At best, you cheapen the honor of someone who deserves it. At worst, you jump the gun and venerate someone that history will scorn.

You don’t think egotistical and authoritarian are somewhat similar? I mean every authoritarian leader is egotistical. I’m not saying everyone who is egotistical is authoritarian, but I mean come on it’s pretty similar

I feel like egotistical leads to authoritarian if left unchecked. It implies a lot about a country when their leader puts their face on their currency
