Do you believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally?

Tbf that’s what Reagan did, and it didn’t solve anything

As soon as you have one, ppl figure they’ll take their chances on another one happening

yeah, but i would say it needs to be a one time thing with specific parameters. for example, they've been here like 10 years, they've been paying taxes and not receiving benefits, haven't committed a crime, have been a productive member of society, etc.

The quote is directly from Ronald Reagan

I figured it was an allusion, ofc the original quote was a declaration though instead of a question. It still didn’t solve anything though

A lot of progressives would be damn surprised when they find out that Ronald Reagan is responsible for amnesty for undocumented immigrants

I mean I’m generally progressive on things besides immigration and I’m not surprised. It’s just historical knowledge, nothing crazy

I think he’s kinda of right. If you ask all of those Anti ICE protesters, they probably no idea who Ronald Reagan is

I’ve gone to an anti ice protest and most of them were overly politically obsessed boomers, so at least anecdotally I’d doubt that

At least with young people 18-25, they really don’t know immigration history

Man I’m 21 and Ik my immigration history pretty well. You can be anti ICE being idiotically unconstitutional in its tactics while also being anti-amnesty and knowledgable over the topic

My mom and dad were huge Reagan fans after they received legalization. Honestly that’s the reason why I know about this

My parents left the republicans after trump, they realized this is not the same Republican Party as Ronald Reagan party. I’m a lot more liberal compared to them
