
I don’t think time is super relevant. I think it’s already intelligent to wipe us out at any point so it doesn’t have to do with the advancement of the technology, it just has to do with our capability of controlling it. Who knows when the control will be lost or if it will be. I think the destruction/rejection of technology is just as likely to happen. I feel it’s a 50/50 chance, but time is irrelevant
AI isn’t going to even attempt to wipe people out without people attempting to make it do that, with government level funding. It’s not out of the question that multiple governments would already have botnet viruses sitting in their back pockets, but that’s an entirely separate issue to llms or anything running in a datacenter.
Yeah agree with this 100%, along with the social and psychological/ societal implications. The idea of "superintelligent, out-of-control AI agents" though, is being MASSIVELY hyperbolized by the media and corporate PR departments, this stuff can't actually function independently, that's all a marketing ploy to drive stock prices.
