Do you think that it is harder to come out as a conservative today than it is to come out as LGBTQ?

No, it isn’t. There is still a lot of social stigma around being LGBTQ among bigots, allies, and within the community itself. The country is roughly ~50% conservative. Could you possibly face backlash? Sure. However it won’t be to the severity that is being LGBTQ

40% of the homeless youth population are lgbtq+, the reason for this percentage being so high largely being due to rejection from family. I think the poll itself doesn’t provide enough context, but if you voted yes then i think it’s very telling that you are out of touch with the lived experiences of queer people overall. Differing political views might cause a rift, especially when those views lead to the dehumanization of others.

I am conservative and said no because I can back my belief with facts and principles

Yeah but that’s not what the question is asking. It doesn’t matter if you can do that if friends and loved ones immediately cut you off bc you’re conservative

I get that. I’ve got some liberal views in a conservative family. Families cutting each other off is polarizing and unproductive

Coming out as lgbtq in the Bible Belt south vs “coming out as conservative” in the Bible Belt south where everyone is. VS like Manhattan

Sorry I keep thinking of more I want to say.. but like I’m closeted and if I came out I don’t think my family would disown me or anything thankfully but I don’t think they’d ever accept it or stop trying to change me and I question if they’d come to my wedding. They’d probably cry and scream and try to make me go back to church even more. VS if I came out as conservative they’d be like ok? me too.

Meanwhile, a bill just passed the house that would make medical transition illegal across the board, for everyone. While I doubt it will pass the senate, the same measures aren’t being taken against the political identity that many conservatives have made for themselves. The first Nazi book burning was the library at the sexology research institute in Berlin - where some of the first gender affirming surgeries were successfully performed.

That is the current track of the United States government. If you think that facing the consequences of dehumanizing or spreading hate about others compares in any way to the physical danger of being queer globally, you need a reality check

i don’t understand this take. the MAJORITY of people voted for trump. so how will the vast majority of people then shun you for being a conservative?

Depends on where you live, and it was a close election. The people who shun you for your beliefs are not worth being around anyways
