How so? The Golden Rule isn’t meant to imply that following it will make people treat you better/the way you treat them, it is about being fair to others and avoiding personal hypocrisy of expectation.

it’s not an exchange strategy, it’s a moral stance. you don’t treat others nicely under the assumption they will be nice in return, you do it because it’s the right thing to do.
