my understanding is they’ve been broken up but many of these songs were written and mostly recorded beforehand and they were just finishing up production.

i’d also seen rumors she wanted to scrap the album because the songs were mostly love songs about him. but her label was pissed and wouldn’t let her. so idk if this melancholy love angle was always the plan or if that was some sort of compromise. but either way, this song seems like a pretty straightforward love song.

that makes sense, thank you. i heard about the breakup but thought it was just a rumor until recently and thought drop dead was gonna be like a “i hope you drop dead” kind of thing but after listening to it i was confused.

either way, i do feel bad for her. i’m a musician, too, and whilst im obviously not famous, i can certainly empathize with being forced to perform material you used to love but now hate or is too painful.
