anytime I try to go to therapy, they ask me if I’ve ever had obsessive or compulsive thoughts and I say yes, I have mild (right now) OCD. I do not want therapy for that, I have more important issues right now. I’m there for very hard family struggles, social struggles, etc. unrelated to OCD. Yes, maybe later we can talk about it but that is ALL they end up talking about even when asked not to. Multiple therapists this has happened. I am going to just start lying and saying no.
Are the therapists all from the same clinic? Sometimes the clinic itself can be the problem tbh. If it’s a training clinic where the workers are still getting their masters, I’ve heard of people having negative experiences in those often, but mine was a clinic where they were all already licensed, so it could go either way honestly, just more common in places where they’re still working on licensing. I hate that it’s happened multiple times though. I’m sorry you’ve had to experience that
I’m a psych major myself, not going into therapy as a major, but even just learning what I’ve learned in psych in general, I can understand that maybe if there were underlining OCD symptoms worsening the things you came in for, I’d get trying to help with that, but they should communicate that first and if the client isn’t getting what they want out of the sessions, then they need to change what they’re doing or pass the case onto a clinician that will be able to meet the needs of the client.
