i got acrylic nails to stop picking at my head. i don’t get the satisfaction of getting the dead skin or dandruff under my nails because the acrylic is thick

I have dermatillomania. I feel like it’s ocd unless people would count it as a separate mental health disorder. I pick at me face/acne so bad.

I experience both. Picking the hairs out of a paintbrush has really helped me. I haven’t hair pulled in 2 weeks

I’ve had it since like 5 years old. It’s definitely an anxiety related habit so anything to help lower stress and anxiety helps a lot. I found it was much easier to redirect my hands or compulsions like rather than pulling out important hairs, I pull out leg hair. Rather than picking at my skin, I watched pimple plucking videos. Also picking up a skill like knitting or drawing (even if you are horrible at it) can be helpful to keep your hands busy

I tried this but would then just pick the acrylics off and immediately get at my scalp again 💔
