i think twice, solely from anecdotal evidence. my friend is a wide receiver at the college level and the first school he went to screwed him over so he went somewhere else, and that school ended up benching him for someone else so he had to leave again to save his career. i feel like that’s fair
Y’all going to fast I can’t respond lol. But NIL needs to be roped in. It was meant for these mfers to be able to make money on social media or be in ads. They shouldn’t just be taking checks from alumni. But the transfer portal should absolutely be a thing. You’re judging it on the impact on the NFL but most of the kids you watch on Saturday will not be playing on Sundays
some of these guys don’t ever make it to the nfl tho, some get career ending injuries that leave a lasting impact on their health long term. acl tears can cause permanent pain, as well as some other injuries but i won’t name them all lmao. they deserve to at least be paid for risking their bodies
they also are at risk for being in pain for the rest of their lives which affects their ability to work in the future. i know gronk isn’t the best example because he actually went to the nfl but im gonna use him here. he said after his career, even in the beginning after college, he was in so much pain that he was getting 2 hours of sleep a night. he was in constant pain and nothing helped him. the risk isn’t minimized just because it’s college football, there are still risks.
Idk it’s just hard because realistically they should get paid but I don’t like the idea of universities spending money out of their budget on the football team instead of academics because that is was makes this country so technologically advanced. I can concede that players probably should get paid but they really really really need to stop paying coaches so damn much
