 My last thought from this game, I would do unspeakable things to have a playcaller that’s half as good as Ben Johnson running the Patriots offense. McDaniels is supposed to be one of these geniuses and through 3 weeks I’ve seen no evidence of that

He’s running an offense that looks schematically overmatched and doesn’t maximize the talent he has at his disposal, and that offense is impacting Drake in an extremely negative way

all of the “talent” he has is bottlenecked by how bad drake maye is. don’t delude yourself- not even ben johnson could get this team a win if drake maye keeps playing like drake maybe for the rest of the season

It’s a multifaceted issue, Drake needs to be better but the scheme needs to be better also. The offense has no easy wins for the quarterback that good playcallers should generate. That’s putting Drake in a position where he’s pressing and not trusting what he’s seeing, he didn’t forget how to play quarterback overnight but he’s definitely in a slump and Josh needs to do more to help him

The schematic flaws exist in the pass game but they’re blatantly obvious in the run game and someone like Shanahan, McVay, or Johnson could use motion and under center formations to effectively run the ball

I have the think once they have brown back the offense will improve. Maye has looked really bad but he also hasn’t had a ton of good options which leads to bad choices. Poor oline play and not having the receiver you presumably schemed around using both directly as a decoy all offseason is a tough combo for a guy coming into year three playing good nfl teams
