If the playoffs went off of records only then division games wouldn’t mean anything

yes they would, they count toward your overall record

So then division games would be the same as a random NFC vs AFC matchup. They wouldn’t mean anything special. Divisions make the game more exciting. Teams deserve a spot in the playoffs if they’re able to win the big division games that matter
