Actual question how the fuck are the titans allowed to continually rep oilers shit without ever actually rebranding to the oilers name? Meanwhile every other relocation before and after has been forced to either give up the history or not rebrand at all.

Like I get they own the trademark but the nfl has stepped in on every occasion before and after them to prevent that from happening. How did TN sneak through the cracks

They literally had to rebrand towards it so they could keep the rights lmao. Plus it’s funny that they wear full oilers uniforms against the Texans every time they play in Tennessee. Regardless it’s such a non issue. Honestly I like that the Texans don’t get all the oilers copyright rights and trademarks and history just because they’re the new Houston team, mainly because I DONT like that the browns were allowed to just absorb however many years of history when the new team started in Cleveland

No they chose to do it when the nfl made alternate rules accommodate them. Every other situation was you either commit to the color and name or you give them up. The titans over and over are the only ones told you can do it once a year or you can use the jerseys and keep the titans name. They are the only team in the nfl that gets to dip their toe in the water. Everyone else has to dive head first into it or not do it at all.

It’s been 30 years brother, and if those new rules are there other teams could do it, but the titans are the only one as far as I remember that didn’t have their old franchise replaced. Like the ravens used to be the browns, but browns are still there, so obviously they can’t do that. Anyways, it’s been 30 years since they moved to Tennessee, it’s truly not that deep

Like if you’re a Texans fan that’s salty you don’t have a throwback uniform, just be a titans fan say you want to rep the og Houston team

Who says the nfl didn’t give them a choice? The ravens might not have even asked for it, wanting to leave the old team behind

I'm not I'm a buccaneers fan I'm just asking the question how did they get that exception. They legit are a singular carve out in a long history of deterring teams from doing exactly what they did

But yes when you relocate you are essentially given an ultimatum wear and keep the brand forever or make a new name and dump the history. Again every other instance in NFL history teams have been forced to make that decision. Ravens opted for a new brand, chiefs kept the chiefs name, jets abandoned the titans, the Baltimore colts relocated and kept colts history, Rams keep the rams name or it would have been left in STL, raiders same thing had to take the raiders with them

Titans are the only instance of a team given two years to make a decision, decide to rebrand and them be green lit to keep using a history they themselves decided they don't want.

Maybe they gave Roger 20 bucks. Plus the oilers had a lot less history than like the browns. Browns had 50 years, oilers had about 36, and weren’t a part of the original nfl like the browns were for 17 years until the merger/absorptuon. Oilers were og afl. Plus from research at the start of the ravens move they specifically agreed with Cleveland to have football return to the city within 3 years, and the raven were actually forced to rebrand

Maybe that’s why the titans could keep the old stuff, there was no plan in place at the time for a new team in Houston. Took like 6 or 7 years for the Texan to become a thing, and the only team to fully rebrand after that was ofc the ravens and they seem to have been forced to

Would have been Paul tagliabue when this was made. So roger is honoring something that happened well before his time. But yes it's shady how they get that carveout.
