That Bills defense was overrated, yards allowed is a bad metric to evaluate defenses

That isn’t even getting into McDermott’s schematic failures, Reid humiliated him every time they played because McDermott isn’t a good coach

You’re literally proving the point of this post. Stop making excuses for Josh Allen never winning a damn thing

I’m not making excuses, Allen has had opportunities that he hasn’t capitalized on but I can hold the simultaneous thoughts of Josh Allen needs to be better and the Bills defense/special teams/coaching has been bad/overrated for his entire tenure in Buffalo

The “number one defense” doesn’t get walked down in ten seconds when you know what has to be coming, McDermott blew that game by being too conservative

When your opponent is Patrick Mahomes, anything can happen. We know that. Bills just happen to be stuck in the Jordan era of football

McDermott is a great coach, just sucks he had to go against Andy Reid and Mahomes

No, McDermott is average at best. He’s defensive Adam Gase, he made his bones with Luke Kuechly but without a Hall of Fame mike linebacker he’s got a dead average ceiling and a floor of Mike Nolan. Also, comparing Mahomes to Jordan is farcical. The closest comp Jordan and his Bulls was the Belicheck/Brady Patriots. Anything can happen when you’re playing Mahomes but when you’re scheming up a gotta have it play against the Chiefs Tyreek on a cross/double move has gotta be top of mind as a DC

Well, guess we’ll see next season when the bills defense goes from top 10ish to bottom half

The Chiefs ran the exact two plays everyone in the building knew they were gonna run and the Bills overrated defense couldn’t stop it. It wasn’t even a case where the defense made a good play and the offense made a better one, the defense just blew it

Meanwhile Allen in similar situations never comes through

Yeah, that guy made a play but as a defensive coordinator if you can’t win that game you should just retire in shame

But when Allen has had the same chance against worse defenses he hasn’t finished the game. He’s never been the guy to walk into a game winning drive to send them to any game of importance and prove he’s that guy. That’s why he’s NEVER won in ot.

Because you suck and you’re an embarrassment to the sport who should never be hired anywhere again, let alone being allowed to hold on to that job for five years afterwards. Brian Flores, Mike Macdonald, Bill Belicheck, Steve Spagnuolo, Demeco Ryans etc(you know actual defensive minds) wouldn’t have given those plays up but McDermott did because he’s buns and always has been

So the Bills fired McDermott and promoted the OC to head coach, and that’s gonna fix the defense?

This is some crazy levels of tricks to do on it bro. Josh isn’t gonna let you hit.

That isn’t what I’m arguing, I’m arguing that Sean McDermott and the Bills defense as a whole have been vastly overrated for basically the last five years. Even if Allen was Mr. Clutch which he hasn’t been historically I still don’t believe in the Bills in any meaningful way because the playoff struggles aren’t just Allen, the defense never shows up either

Brandon Beane and Pegula are undoubtedly part of the problem as well. The organization is incredibly poorly run and pretty much always has been except for their runs with Kelly and Allen, but even then it wasn’t the organization being well run but rather having a QB to mask the organizational flaws

I’m not defending Allen, I’m trying to give some criticism to other deserving parties. Allen is a problem but I’m not gonna give the rest of the team a pass because he has come up small in the playoffs, the defense and coaching can get it to.
