I think my biggest NFL hot take is that Trey Lance is the worst/bigger draft bust than Jamarcus Russell because of what they traded to get him because those picks turned into Waddle and Olave directly and indirectly it got Dolphins Chubb and Tyreek

I agree but it pains me every time I see a team mishandle a project QB and then they get written off. I hope someday Lance becomes a decent bridge QB for a team and that the Rams buy low on AR and develop him.

I don’t agree, just because of how unique the situation was. We actually saw JaMarcus Russell play. We barely saw Lance at all. He played like 5 games. Don’t get me wrong, he clearly wasn’t good enough because they traded him for a Day 3 pick, but thanks to Purdy the Lance trade didn’t tank the franchise like it could have. Nobody will remember how bad Trey Lance was because he barely played

McVay is one of the very few coaches I could see saving AR’s career. Don’t think he’ll ever be worthy of that 4th overall pick but he’d be very lucky to even start

Yeah I wasn’t too excited when the Colts drafted AR and if I can remember correctly I believe I wanted the Seahawks or Lions to draft AR and have him sit & develop behind Geno or Goff. I do believe AR was worth a first round pick, same with Lance but both went to the wrong teams. Too many coaches believe in the throw them to the fire approach and at the same time give them such a short leash and aren’t willing to let them make mistakes and lose before they able to adapt to the NFL level.

Too many amazing prospects that flamed out have this happen. Most don’t recover but if they’re lucky they’ll have the Darnold/Baker route and end up in the hands of a QB savant. It’s partially why I wasn’t willing to give up on guys like TLaw and BY9. Canales, Kubiak, and Coen are geniuses when it comes to developing QBs

Yeah although I will say of the QBs coming up on extensions I currently don’t have a lot of hope for BY9, Penix, Nix, and AR. I think Stroud can get it done if the Texans give him an OL but the rest imo have not shown enough development/consistency to be long term franchise QBs, at least not at this moment.

I see your point but Lance being bad is potentially a reason that held back the 49ers from being even better than they have been which means if they’ve never made that trade up that they possibly would’ve hit on those picks that they traded away and or used them to trade for someone else. Had they used those picks elsewhere it’s very likely that the 49ers would’ve won one of the SBs they’ve been in with a better team.
