Why do penalties automatically offset? Like unless the yards cancel out they should not be offsetting

Because if they didn’t, when a team saw a penalty committed at the snap, people like Lane Kiffin would coach their team to respond by committing a slightly lesser penalty with a get-out-of-jail-free card.

Are you stupid? This is exactly why they SHOULDNT be offsetting. Like are you actually hearing what you are saying?

You’re genuinely an idiot. Why tf would a team see a penalty on the opposing team and then commit one? What possible benefit could they get out of that? Are you hearing yourself? Genuinely what tf are you saying

Do I need to hold your hand and explain it to you? Are you that fucking stupid?

I would absolutely love to hear you try and explain this. Hopefully you will realize how stupid you sound. Please try to explain why a team would ever purposely commit a penalty

The other team has already committed a 15-yard foul. Your team can now commit a 10-yard foul and, instead of the double foul wiping out your opponent’s penalty and replaying the down, you still come out five yards ahead.

Make a strategically useful foul cheaper and teams will take it more often. That’s why offsetting exists: your foul should erase the benefit of theirs, not give you a discounted price on cheating. Do I need to draw your dumb ass a god damn picture, too?

You’re treating penalties like two parking tickets where we just compare the dollar amounts. They aren’t. They’re rules against actions that can create competitive advantages, and the yardage is the PRICE imposed to discourage those actions and fouls. If you lower that price, more people will pay it. Even someone as stupid as OP can understand that.

AHAHHAHA. You’re an idiot. So instead of accepting the 15 yard penalty you are gonna purposely only get 5 yards… you are telling me teams are going out of their way to… lose yards? I have never seen something dumber

Teams literally already commit penalties because of the advantage they provide, and you’re sitting here dumb as a fucking brick saying they wouldn’t do it more if it cost fewer yards.

If you’re a god damn idiot, just fucking say that. Jesus Christ, you AI-infested kids have the analytical skills of a fucking wet paper sack. God damn.
