Not never, but we’re talking about a guy who much like Aaron Rodgers has always marched to the beat of his own drum and these quotes read more like an acknowledgment that Lamar is so much his own man that some coaches have struggled to connect with him the exact same way they would with other players

Hard to connect with? His two OCs have been Greg Roman and Todd Monken. And that post is giving praise to Monken like he’s a specialty teacher dealing with a problematic child

People are constantly ready to jump to race when that’s less of a thing than his eccentric nature. I’ve played with guys who are wired differently than the rest of us, they’re usually great but that doesn’t mean they aren’t challenging to coach and acknowledging that isn’t racist. You’re not gonna be as talented as Lamar is and not be a handful to coach

He and Lamar clearly had a good relationship, better than the one he had with Harbaugh or with Roman, and Monken definitely deserves praise because he did a better job than coaches with better resumes have. I’d say Harbaugh is a much better coach overall than he is but Harbaugh brutally mismanaged Lamar and that’s part of the reason he’s in New York now

Look at his rocky relationship with Roman and Harbaugh. Both of those guys (though Harbaugh more than Roman) have a history of success and positive relationships with a lot of their quarterbacks but that didn’t exactly translate when it came to Lamar, because Lamar is just different than other guys they’ve coached. This isn’t a bad thing, great QBs (and great players generally) are always a handful to coach this is less a criticism of Lamar and more a criticism of his coaches

If you’re a coach who can’t connect with your MVP caliber QB then you shouldn’t be coaching, and the QB isn’t to blame for being “difficult” you need to adjust to him

I don’t think he’s problematic, I think he’s eccentric (as are most great athletes)

He’s also demonstrably difficult to connect with because if Harbaugh and Roman could’ve figured it out they’d still have a job. If everyone could do it then they wouldn’t pay great coaches millions. Connecting with your players is part of coaching, connecting with your great players is basically essential to keep your job. I don’t give a damn how difficult an MVP caliber player is to connect with, if you want to last as a coach you’ll make it work
