The best team in the league being 5-4 should invalidate the results of the games. There is no internal validity if the best team is near .500. Results are random not earned

In the end it’s not about the better team it’s about the team that wins, that’s why upsets matter so much. We know Green Bay is better than Carolina, but the fact that Carolina won means they earned that in a reflection of their record which has them in wild card contention currently

Ever heard of the 2010 chargers

The Seahawks are having a better season than the bengals even tho everyone thought it would be the other way around. Should we just give the 3-6 bengals a playoff spot because “they’re supposed to be good”

Which team might you be referring too? Because the only five and four teams right now are the panthers and the chiefs, neither of which is a top 10 team right now

Chiefs are SB favorites

Because the afc is a shit hole so they will easily make the Super Bowl and the nfc is super tight right now so no team can be a high betting favorite because all of them could make it

The chiefs are higher than every nfc team in fpi and its not very close. They are the best team and could miss the playoffs

Still not the best team they lost to the jaguars who are mediocre at best

Because results are random. The chiefs have way too much talent to be 5-4 but everyones so packed in tight in the nfl that the results are coin flips

Best offense in the league by a mile and best defense in the league by a mile, no team has ever strung together the number one offense and defense in the same season. The chargers missed the playoffs that year.

Fpi is a measure of future projections not power

Yea and thats a crying shame. If the best statistical team on both sides cant even make the postseason its the sport’s fault

Nfl is too obsessed with manufacturing fake competitive balance through the draft (which ruined Bryce Young and CJ Stroud btw) and rewarding division winners. I actually think college football is better at seeding the playoff

No it’s their special teams fault

Special teams is usually worth like 5-10% of team strength. They could have the 32nd special teams and should still be the 1 seed with their other stats. Problem is every nfl point spread is 3 or less so one missed kick in 5 different games means you dont make the playoffs

Upsets are cool but if the best team in the sport misses the playoffs, or if the best team is .500 its just a bad reflection on the league. The cream should rise in a well run sport

What exactly is so mismanaged about the league that lead the “best team” to miss the playoffs?

Too much parity. The chargers shouldve been able to talent their way to the championship (see 2011 bama who had a historic defense and a historically bad fg kicker)

Nfl doesnt have enough separation between the haves and have nots. Reality is some orgs dont care to invest in football and we shouldnt try to save them with the draft

No I mean tell me exactly what is wrong with the league, you keep saying that it’s broken if the best team is ~500. But what is broken

Fair enough, many other leagues in other sports punish the worst teams by sending them to lower divisions. But how does that keep the chiefs down?

The nfl doesnt have enough teams for relegation, but the draft should be randomized. We should stop sending sensational talents to horrible organizations that clearly dgaf about football

Not the same thing. The chiefs are actually the best team statistically but are 5-4

Too bad they couldn’t use the power of stats to beat the chargers, eagles, jags, and bills and barely got by the Russell Wilson giants
