Avoiding the death sentence that is quarterbacking for the Jets. All while collecting a bag from Phil Knight. Smart move tbh, the Jets are one of, in not the worst run franchise in North American sports
What is Dante Moore doing?

If he gets injured and his career tanks he’s missing out on like 20 million fully guaranteed. Plus he can easily pull an Eli and go to the cards

Even if he did fail with the Jets, a rookie QB deal at #2 overall is worth like $40 million. He has generational wealth secured by declaring, and he’s betting that all on another season in college, where he could get hurt, or just suck

Plus if the jets were to sit him for a year then it’s actually one of the best spots he could go to

Cardinals still got another year at least with Murray on payroll and Brissett was more than serviceable under center this year and also on the payroll for another year. Cards have other needs. Obviously the money is compelling but career wise it makes sense. He’s only started one year in college and he will be developed there rather than tossed into a pit of fire with the Jets

Cards drafting him and sitting and developing him would be great. We don’t know if theres gonna be another mendoza comin out of nowhere next year

Getting drafted to the Jets to ride pine for a year would be abysmal. They don’t develop qbs and it’s not like he’d be sitting behind a solid starting QB. Another year at Oregon will be better for his development than a year playing for or sitting for the Jets.

Cards developing him on the bench would be better than the Jets but the Cardinals would need to give up quite a bit to snag a sure starter from NYJ to throw on their bench and that’s not realistic. Staying at Oregon is best for his development

While the risk of injury is of course there, life ain’t all about that money. Another year at Oregon will be far more fun and more beneficial to his game than going to New York to take a beating. The money also goes up every year so if he can stay top 5 he’ll make more next year than this year. And if he drops because the QB class is better next year then he’ll wind up on a better squad than the Jets and be better developed under a real starting QB and not Justin Fields and Geno Smith

Seeing only the $40 mil is missing the forest for the trees

Still, it’s risky. Drew Allar did this and could’ve been a 1st round pick, or 2nd at worst if he declared last year. Now he’s looking like a day 3 pick. Turning down that much money when there’s no guarantee you’ll be a first round pick the next year is dangerous

I totally forgot about Drew yeah he completely fucked himself over. He was projected like top 5 in mock drafts before the college season started and then he floundered out and got injured

Thats why I would declare if I were Moore. He could get hurt, or just regress and be out of the first round. When you have the chance to be handed $40 million, you don’t pass that up. Even if it’s to the Jets, I’m still going.

And that’s totally fair. Allar bet on himself and lost but at the same time. He was not ready to be an NFL starter and I don’t think Moore is either. I think Moore is returning to a better situation and overall unit than Allar though. That first payday is nice but if you can make it to the second payday it’s way better and this is Dante Moore betting another year at Oregon gets him closer to a second payday than going to the Jets

That was so grammatically all over the place, I apologize
