Ball knower. Rookie Mac wasn’t great but he was very solid. If he’d had Shanahan developing him instead of Matt fucking Patricia I think he’d be a proven top 10 qb year in and year out. Plus if they didn’t trade up with Miami to get to pick 3 then they would’ve had I think 2 or 3 (?) more first round picks to support Mac and surround him with talent

I swear on my life I never once slandered Mac going into that draft. That being said did I want us to draft him at that time? Hell no. I wanted Fields. Looking back, it’s safe to I might’ve wanted the wrong guy

They wouldn’t have lost all the capital it took to move up to Lance, Mac Jones before he was ruined was a pro bowler, Brock Purdy cannot stop being injured and they wouldn’t be tied up with a monster deal for an insignificant player. Any QB can succeed in Shanahan’s offense, but Mac Jones is excelling AFTER he was deemed a lost cause by the Pats.

Mac Jones is more scheme dependent and a lesser QB than Purdy. Yes he’s a decent starter but he struggles with pressure and has a weak arm. Pro Bowls now are also insignificant, Tyler Huntley has one. Outside of the playoff injury this is the only real year where he’s dealt with injuries missing significant time. Also if any QB can succeed in the Shanahan offense then Trey Lance wouldn’t have been a bust.

Trey Lance probably wouldn’t have been a “bust” if they hadn’t devoted everything to a project QB during Win Now mode - he started 4 total games in SFO. If they had drafted an NFL-ready QB, they would’ve been in an INFINITELY better position. I disagree on his arm strength - he’s plenty capable of airing it out, and has on several occasions, but he hasn’t exactly played with receivers who are (a) capable of getting open or (b) capable of coming down with contested catches.

You can have a weak arm and still be able to push the ball down the field, Hurts and Tua are capable of throwing deep shots despite having the weakest arms amongst starting QBs (I’d say currently Gabriel is the weakest tho). The weak arms show tho when they have to push the ball down the field and there’s someone breathing in their face, this usually results in ducks being thrown but weaker arm QBs. I do agree about the Lance part tho
