
I think they were put in a tough spot. Kirk was coming off of an achilles injury and wanted a long term contract and Vikings didn’t want to do that. That left them with Darnold who they weren’t expecting to turn things around so they didn’t commit to him long term. The top QBs in ‘24 draft were off the board and so it was either reach on someone like JJ or Nix (better but not by much) or reach on someone in ‘25. In hindsight they should’ve waited to get someone like Dart but Dart being this good
Even still then that’s valued for young QBs. A lot of college QBs don’t operate under center so once they’re drafted teams have to teach them that. That may not seem like a big deal but it greatly impacts the run game. When runs are from under center there’s better cutback lanes for the RB opposed to taking runs from shotgun/pistol.
