I kinda feel bad that Im not a big fan of Christmas. There are so many concepts that come with the holiday that I personally don’t see the point of. Im constantly questioning why things are the way they are just because it’s Christmas

Traditions, memories, traditions for the young ones in the family. If you like your family and friends, one day when you’re older you can still remember grandma or your family during a specific time of year. Me and my bf are atheists I’m an atheistic pagan and my best friend is muslim and we both celebrate christmas culturally with our families, not religiously. I’m anti capitalist but i love pulling out the decorations, baking cookies, etc

I get this for sure. I’m not a fan of surprise gifts, large fancy meals, music played outside headphones at a high volume, etc. I dunno. I’m not a fan of Christmas either

Sometimes I stare at the tree and think how fucking weird it is that we did this in our living room.

The birth of the one who loves you most is reason for celebration no matter how big or small! 🙏✝️🎉

Man I wish. I’m also an atheist, and plan to stop celebrating. But my father is Christian and makes me and my whole family do all sorts of pointless trash

I honestly think if you value and love your family enough then you don’t need a specific day to spend time together and give each other gifts

See I agree. But my family is toxic and they all hate each other except when they’re forced together on holidays

Christmas is about the love & joy & peace I wish some upon you.

I thought Christmas was about the birth of Jesus? Isn't that the whole... point... of the holiday..? Non-Christians don't have to celebrate, even if it's veiled as "love and joy and peace"

My family doesn’t really focus on the religious aspects of it. Im mostly talking about the commercialism and the forced family interaction

But why does it have to be on this specific day? Why does it have to be oversaturated with gift giving and other actions that I can give my family year round?

it doesn’t have to be, like no one’s saying not do have other days. it’s just that (assuming you’re in the US) christmas has been adopted as an almost-secular holiday. it’s fine if you don’t like it tho.

like, my best friend is jewish, my mom and sibling are buddhist, im agnostic, my partner is atheist, and we all still do “christmas” (tree and presents and big dinner and spend time together) bc it’s a holiday we have off, so everyone’s actually free

I also like the classic movies, the winter clothes, the music. There’s no logic to a cultural holiday, you have to look at it from an emotional one and know that it’s a time of year that means a lot to a lot of other people. If you don’t empathize when you don’t care about the subject at hand then you’re not really going to get it, again, it’s not something grounded in logic

Not everyone believes in what you do and christmas is more cultural and capitalistic than christian now adays: my muslim friend and her muslim family celebrate, I’m an atheist-pagan, my atheist boyfriend and his atheist family (and his wiccan mother) celebrate christmas. It’s a cu
