I’m very lucky my dad (also autistic) was big into “find out the why” but it’s gotten me into trouble outside of my family. In middle school I was two years ahead in math and getting an A but I didn’t understand why the equations worked the way they did so I went to tutoring to find out why math worked. Same thing in high school when I was in calculus, it took taking physics for it to make sense. I try to tell people now that it’s the same thing. I know things, but I want to know WHY things

For me, it was mostly in classrooms. If you asked a question, the teacher assumed you were either stupid or not paying attention

No fr. I’m 26 and when I openly disagree with my mom she says “stop talking to me like you’re 13” and I just have to sit there with my jaw on the floor

For me it’s a very specific incident. So I’m a runner and I’ve been running since I was 6 and one time when I was around that age I was running at practice and I well and cut my knee open. I very distinctly remember my coach saying “get up, I’m not carrying you back, get up, get up” and in my mind that took as some will help me

Ough this is so real- the ‘find out the why’ part of my brain is sedated a lil bc sometimes lesson plans have you learn the thing and make the connection later, so if I try to connect now, I’ll wind up just getting lost

i remember having a hw question when i was in like 2nd or 3rd grade and i went to go ask my dad and he was annoyed that i was asking him (he was watching tv) and told me to figure it out and when i came back with a C on that assignment he asked why i didn't ask for help. i almost burned the house down i was so annoyed
