Omg this and, since I’m autistic, when neurotypical people make jokes insulting their friends calling them “autistic” or the R word and they say “I wouldn’t say this in front of an autistic person” like babes we don’t have a look. You just did. 🌞 why is ableism so funny to them

tbh i find it weirdly motivating and i think when used appropriately it can be a good reminder to get out of your own way

What if you make these sorts of jokes around a select group of people and are “self-diagnosed?”

no babe i’m allowed to make jokes and laugh bc i know the reality of living with it and how to make an appropriate joke to make light of my own situation!!! you’re just repeating what other ppl say bc you think it’s funny to laugh at disabilities/disorders. we are not the same

YES and like people get way too comfy making jokes with their friends who are fine with them doing that and bring that energy into society as a whole and it's like sorry i don't like u making fun of my disability when idk u? like pls become sentient lmfao

i think this can be a good perspective especially if said by the right person (ie. don't take it as a sign you need to mask or acclimate more but to remind yourself you are still just as capable even if you have a disability, you just might need to work harder to get to the goal and that's ok) but definitely if this is a stranger or an nt person or someone without any kind of disability ts does NOT fly yk (ik u prob know that if ur in this chat but yes tis a general statement 🫶🫶)

right and like sometimes it’s a friend who’s just too scared to even tell them it’s not okay so “oh but my friend lets me call them the r slur or say other demeaning things” okay well, no one else is them, and also, are they letting you bc they’re actually okay with it or bc you make fun of them for “being too sensitive” or smth like that if they say anything? 🤨

its very dependent on if u actually know these people well (like if they're ur friends) vs strangers having the audacity to say this stuff!! i have adhd and was sdxd for quite a while before i got tested and had it confirmed—it all comes down to the situation u are in !!!!
