autism is so humbling sometimes my own behavior [mostly] makes sense to me, and I can communicate with [some] other autistic people just fine, but at the end of the day I still have to face the fact that to most people, I am Not intuitive to understand 🙂‍↕️

like… the majority gets to decide what social cues are supposed to be, so I’m just stuck “being bad at social cues” and not being able to fully reject that assessment no matter how much I personally disagree with the idea that I’m the one who’s being confusing or failing to understand certain things 😭😭😭

I have a Human Behavior Checklist™️ in my head because I learned body language at 15 and it’s the way I interpret it. If someone does x, that means y. But I understand even nonverbal autistics more than a lot of neurotypicals. I’m pretty good at realizing who finds me off putting but not why. I can recognize when I’ve lost an audience but also not why because I wasn’t doing anything weird to my knowledge.

that last sentence is exactly it 😬 it can be sooooo frustrating knowing that I have to just make peace with it when I’m being perceived as incoherent or kinda off-putting even though I’m just, like, trying to be good-natured & sociable

I’ve been working on letting go of the frustration. I’m working on being ok with people seeing me as annoying sometimes. They’re also annoying to me sometimes but I still like them so I have to assume they still like me until they tell me different.

that’s def gotta be the most sensible way to look at this, major respect for putting in the effort to deliberately talk yourself through the rough feelings and whatnot 🙏 I’ve made it to the point where I do consciously notice there’s some hypocrisy involved in me being kind of an irritable person And getting so neurotic over how I’m perceived lol, just gotta keep pushing to unlearn the “if I’m not adored then I’m a worthless failure” reflex
