Hey do you guys think it would be wrong for me to casually say that I’m neurodivergent even though I haven’t been officially diagnosed?

Nah it’s a general enough term, but also self diagnosis and stuff is valid! Who’s gonna say that how u choose to define ur experience is wrong

As someone who has gone through a lot of childhood trauma surrounding my diagnosis and the time of my life when I was being evaluated and getting diagnosed idk how i feel about it. but i can say you should definitely pre-sue an accurate diagnosis especially if you need any accommodations or you may benefit from the closer a diagnosis can bring.

I’m definitely on the spectrum or have adhd, maybe both. Most of my friends growing up had autism or adhd. I had to teach myself social dynamics and ‘common sense.’ I didn’t come with the built in programming most people get + I have sensory issues. I’m not sure if being diagnosed would be a good idea, becuase I don’t want people to treat me differently based solely on that label.

I teach at uni and got fucking dragged over the coals for saying I had ADHD but was unsure if I actually had the papers. Funnily enough, in my quest to get papers, I ended up with an autism diagnosis

I’d get diagnosed, people will treat you differently with or without the label, the label is just for u to have a guideline for what’s up and what you can do to aid self (or have other people aid you) the only bad thing abt a diag is the price, u can just not disclose that u have anything too

And u can often go in wanting to get diagnosed for one thing and get a different thing out of it

exactly. but it’s the persons choice if they want a diagnosis or don’t want to know 100%. just in cases for accommodations i know for me i have had to show proof of my diagnosis and even get an updated evaluation before
