I had a meeting with a counselor at my school’s DRC and the counselor was so uncaring with my issue. When I started crying and said I wish he could be more compassionate, he said “you didn’t give me a rubric for compassion before this meeting” ??? 🥲

yeah definitely report that to the department head for the counseling services bc that’s insane.

I set up the meeting because a teacher adjusted me in a class without asking and it made me panic and ask her to stop. I apologized I didn’t tell her I had an accommodation before, but she shamed me for my reaction after and then started treating me different/ignoring/avoiding me in class. I think it effected my overall grade in the class. I was anxious to escalate it, but I don’t feel safe in class with her now and I wanted to go over my options

The counselor said “that sounds like a personality issue, not a DRC issue, go to talk to the head of your college” instead of letting me finish speaking about the issues in class that made me feel unsafe. For context, I have CPTSD and can flashback to being assaulted when touched from behind. I’m not upset for the teacher touching me without realizing it triggers me, but I don’t feel it’s fair for her to treat me different because of a reaction I couldn’t control

Thank you for validating it wasn’t alright 😭. He said “you can go to talk to the head of the DRC, but she’ll tell you the same thing I did”. Except she didn’t, she was really kind and seemed a bit horrified he told me the rubric comment. I’m going to talk to her next Friday so we can figure out how I can feel safe in class

You sound like you’re coming from an alternate reality or timeline tbh like this sounds like you’re in 2006 with zero understanding of mental health or psychological trauma being present in collegiate spaces. Absolutely go to the Ombudsman if you have a continued issue with multiple faculty tbh.

THANK YOU 😭 I was starting to feel like I was overly sensitive after the counselor. I wasn’t surprised about the professor acting that way because she’s older and maybe from a different time (I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if she’s around 70), but I didn’t expect the Disability Resource counselor to talk that way to me at all since I thought he would be used to cases like mine

I have a diary on my phone that I write in daily. I wasn’t planning on it if the issue could have been resolved easier, but the diary has a log of basically every incident. I’m gonna make a log of the incidents so I can have a record of everything that’s happened and bring a printed copy to my meeting with the DRC head or the Ombudsman. Hopefully that will make it easier for them to help me
