I went to my primary care doctor first, and they referred me to a specialist for testing. The evaluation lasted all day and honestly left my brain feeling exhausted. I'm not sure how they test adults, though, since I ended up being evaluated at a children's clinic because I was kind of in that in-between age where I wasn't quite considered a child, but wasn't fully treated as an adult.

My therapist referred me, I honestly didn’t know what exactly the test was for until after lol but it was a lot of questions about like emotion recognition and how you communicate and stuff like that

Tell primary care doctor I’m anxious —> referred to a pmhnp and therapy —> treat anxiety for a year —> pmhnp and therapist both suggest adhd —> referred to psychiatrist —> psychiatrist says yeah but also notices autistic traits —> referred to psychologist for full assessment —> diagnosed autism

Tldr: was different as a kid. When I was 6 I told my mom that I couldn’t understand kids my age or socialize, then got tested at school, then again at a private practice for a second opinion.

went into a ward bc i tried to off myself, while i was there the main doc said i seemed autistic (the evening after he butted in on me playing solitaire by myself and asking to play with me so i had to set up a whole different game) and scheduled an apt for me for 6 months later. took the test, was diagnosed p much on the spot.

Even though it was mentally draining, I found the whole experience fascinating. It was really interesting to see what they discovered by the end of the evaluation and how they were able to piece everything together. It gave me a much better understanding of how my brain works.

Are you a woman or afab trans? They tend to get under diagnosed. If not, I’m still happy you got diagnosed.
