people think it’s an intellectual disability, like no, i’m smarter than you when my body feels safe and my clothes don’t itch.

Cause they’re both disabilities that are often infantilized. Like “oh I love people with autism/Down syndrome! They’re so sweet!” They just conflate them both as Thing that makes sweet poor little baby angels so don’t feel any need to differentiate them
