Being neurodivergent isn’t synonymous with having a better sense of understanding or morality, in fact, when you are oppressed there’s a pretty good chance you’ll end up oppressing a different group lol. Also, the neurodivergent grouping is so big that everyone’s experiences with oppression is going to be incredibly different??
I think people think that all neurodivergent people are like the ones you see advocating online, but that’s really not a great picture of neurodivergent people? If you work with a variety of different people in a field that deals with treating issues associated with neurodiversity you get a massively different picture. I would argue that this is benevolent prejudice lol.
It was moreso “how can you experience oppression and then go and oppress others” but obviously not every neurodivergent is going to be oppressed and not every neurodivergent experiences empathy. It was moreso a generalization of “how can a community that goes thru oppression be okay with the oppression of another community” but obviously there is nuance. Like “how could women vote for Trump” when obviously not every woman thinks the same or experiences life the same or votes the same.
Political propaganda, declining literacy, and just generally being undereducated. A lot of people struggle and that struggle gets used by monsters to proliferate oppression—ICE works by creating a “bad guy” responsible for American woes that are actually caused by the people running politics. If you are struggling constantly, you don’t have the time to do research. Our issues should be the rich people paying off/for politicians to cater to their agenda.
I would argue that it’s even less than an empathy thing tbh. One of my favorite people got tricked into voting for trump. She literally works for a non profit to help low income peeps get access to food, water, and shelter. She’s low income herself and thought he would fix the economy. Oppression gets used to push people into a resource scarcity mindset to create cognitive dissonance that ends up making people stand for things that objectively make no sense.
I agree with everything you’ve written I am poor and go to a food pantry just for food. I am in desperate need of healthcare with no access. I have been unemployed since October of last year. I am mixed race Mexican. I have seen how this country treats people on the bottom. Capitalism thrives off oppression, lack of education, violence, greed, control, etc. and I hate everything that is a by product of that. Desperation has made us do a lot of bad things. It has made me do bad things.
Have you applied for various aids? I know I wasn’t aware there were/are a bunch of alternative ways to get help (although they really suck to try to get into). I completely understand. I am disabled and this system truly does push you down further and further if you can’t fit as a cog into the machine. You aren’t being allowed to be who you want to be, please give yourself some grace. You are doing the best you can with what you have been given.
I found a place that provided “free” healthcare in my state and ended up being traumatized by the staff in multiple ways and even after confirming it was “free” I ended up getting billed. We’re looking at another place now to help, but I’m taking baby steps because i can’t afford much more stress and pain in life right now. And thank you for the suggestions 💜
