I get so exhausted every time I hang out with my friend who has Down syndrome and I feel so bad and so guilty because I don’t want to hang out with her anymore

maybe it’ll be helpful to take space and just minimize contact for a bit. i’ve done that with a personality/sensory needs conflict before and it helped strengthen our friendship in exploring boundaries or what we didn’t like about it before

tbf if she knew you were making posts like this about her then I’m sure she wouldn’t wanna keep hanging out with you either

It might, I just don’t know how to explain that in a way she’d understand. Our friendship also isn’t very balanced and it never will be because of her ID which doesn’t help either

That’s fair. Would media help? like a movie or something that kind of demonstrates how you need to take space to find your magic again (magic in this sense being self-comfort and learning to cherish a friend again).

Maybe? Honestly it’s hard also because any time something doesn’t go her way she gets really upset. But it’s also been like 3-4 weeks since I’ve seen her. The biggest problem is that I just feel like a right asshole every time I get annoyed with her because it is directly related to her disability but also I get annoyed partly because of my disability so it’s not like it’s anyone’s fault

so like, instead of “sparing her feelings” out of pity, just treat her like you would any other person and end the friendship. you need to understand that you’re not doing her a favor by barely tolerating her—no one really wants a fake friend
