i found a bed bug while visiting my parents which is basically my nightmare and i’m still physically sick with anxiety days later

I find a single spider in my room and it’s over, I’m emptying the entire room and scrubbing everything and putting it back together

Are you 100% sure it was a bed bug? Even if so, it may help to reassure yourself you have taken necessary precautions (I assume you have) like bagging your clothes and washing them, keeping an eye out for them, etc. Is there any way to get your parents to actually take this seriously? Like do they not wake up with blood on their sheets?

i’m like 90% sure, I did bag all my clothes and take them to a laundromat and then kept them bagged when coming back to my apartment/abandoned anything i couldn’t wash. i also inspected my mattress there and at home and didn’t find anything but i’m erring on the side of caution. i tried making my family care but they’re pretty flippant about stuff in general so i probably just won’t be going to their house for a couple months to be safe tbh

What’s scary is with bed bugs, you never really know for sure and there’s no such thing as being too careful

i wish you the best of luck with your apartment! at least here if i do end up having to deal with it, it’s my landlord’s responsibility financially
