They reclaim the water, next issue? it’s really hard to look at a cost of intelligence and go thats too much to sacrifice to increase our intelligence. Water and Electrons?? That shit grows easier than trees

AI queries don’t use as much water as people say, it’s mostly electricity they use up

You do know the use of AI is not harming the environment as much as what is being portrayed. Everything is being exaggerated on both sides of the environmental conservation spectrum that it’s harming actual action to take care of the environment.

Yeah, it’s why I drive a very efficient car and try not to drive when I can. Also trying to move to a place where public transit is a thing

Generative AI doesn’t use treated water like what we use to drink.

Eyyy bet, it also functions as a space heater when it’s cold… might as well do useful work with the energy

This got down voted because it’s true? I am not a fan of “AI” especially working in the tech field so I’m not defending it. But facts are facts, not opinions. The use of water for AI inquiries is not black and white, it’s complex and the understanding of how water usage is calculated is something normal people don’t need to and usually don’t understand. But for this topic you do. Do your research instead of being the extremes of either side of the debate.

Push aside the fact that it’s harming the environment, it is still pushing people out of their towns to make space for data centers.
