Except that’s not at all what autism is and this is a harmful take on autism

listen, i know you're autistic, but part of socializing is learning how to take a joke, especially when it's a neurodivergent community joking its own neurodiversity

It doesn’t make sense though?

Also exactly 0% of autism is talking down to someone. Never start your sentences with “listen” unless you’re intentionally being rude.

dude the whole autism creature thing and the stuff about autistic cats has been around for ages, it’s very clearly a joke, what part is harmful

It insinuates - to me, as someone who’s never seen those memes - that unsocialized kids are autistic or vice versa. It kind of plays into that whole homeschool trope.

I don’t think it’s insinuating anything, it’s just supposed to be relatable. Harmful association or not, I think a lot of autistic people here can relate with not feeling like they socialized properly as kids.

I understand, but not feeling like you’re socializing properly is very different to the message behind “not socialized enough.” It’s insinuating your parents socially neglected you, and that’s why you’ve got autism.
