yall are disappointing me why do we treat certain disorders worse than others? NPD, DID, etc can we stop fighting? we're all less-than in the eyes of governments

True! Using narcissist, schizophrenic, and even psychopath etc etc as insults REALLY rubs me the wrong way

these disorders weren’t very understood from the beginning & then the media ran with misunderstandings which caused them to be demonized

fr bc i bet they wouldn’t like if we started treating ppl with severe physical issues as “less than”… if they wanna call mental illnesses crazy and demonic let’s start calling physical illnesses gross and diseased

and don’t even get me started on the language of “sociopathy” 😭 I end up writing mini-essays about that one in various comment sections on like a weekly basis at this point

see but in the beginning they didn’t understand much physical conditions either. certain conditions were shunned, considered “unclean” and sometimes sacrificed. now everyone respects them but yet mental health is still somehow up for debate? make it make sense

the issue there would be that many things about mental health are very subtle so to people who aren’t well-educated, if there isn’t a physical issue like a broken leg the problem doesn’t exist.

uh, that’s already a very common form of stigma faced by physically disabled & chronically ill people. did you think only neurodivergent & mentally ill people experienced ableism, or what?

“now everyone respects them” and you’re talking about physically disabled people??? like, are you joking right now??

there’s plenty of severe physical conditions that we cannot see on the outside that are still respected and believed

no no i was not saying that’s how i felt about physical disabilities. i was saying it goes both ways so why is there a much higher respect for physical than mental

i feel like they don’t get as much shit talked about them though and people are more likely to believe them

right, you were only talking about your own perspective, and that’s why you said “everyone” I actually experience both of those oppressions, and you would only be able to confidently voice an opinion that ignorant if you’ve never had a close personal friendship with a severely chronically ill person

read my comments. i said i wasn’t trying to bring down nobody, but it’s a double standard. i meant it as imagine if we said that about them. yall literally proved my point by getting so mad about it but not when it’s the other way around😂

that may in part be due to the fact that rheumatoid arthritis is one of hundreds of physical chronic illnesses, while you are comparing it to the *entire category* of mental illnesses (many of which you also don’t “hear as much about”). but I really do not respect your worldview enough to waste any more time or energy trying to level with you
