Can we talk about the resurgence of weird ablism happening right now?? Especially how it’s happening on the left too?? I guess you can’t see it bc of how the quote posts work but why the fuck does a Down’s syndrome edit to make fun of Trump have upvotes??
So I hate Trump too but is there a reason we can’t do that without making weird and bigoted jokes about disabled people??? The fact that this has this many upvotes is kinda wild to me ngl

ableism became normal when the pandemic started and everyone decided disabled people were expendable, which is eugenics. this is why i wear a mask still

This part fr. I’m old enough to remember when people knew it was a slur and basically stopped saying it, it’s crazy to me that it’s getting thrown again.

i’m only in my mid 20s but i remember when ppl stopped using it bc it was derogatory. i hate ppl who say they’re “reclaiming” it too bc it’s usually high functioning autistic ppl and like… babe no

I love it when people reclaim a word by just using it as an insult and thus making sure it's just as harmful as it's always been! That's great!/s

like, not only does it not rlly get used on us except to compare us to higher support needs disabilities, but every time someone uses it, it’s just… using it as it was intended to be used. you’re still using the slur as a slur. there’s no way to use the word without it being used in a derogatory, insulting way and there’s no reason ppl can’t just say stupid, dumb, etc. bc that’s what they mean anyway.

I was one of the last students in high school to wear a mask and my mom forced me to stop wearing one because “people would know I was autistic if I kept wearing it”.

you can reuse them many times and if you have a local mask bloc they can help you get more masks

if someone presents me with barriers to masking i’m going to do my best to try and help them get past them. no idea why me being helpful is being downvoted. #2 i will literally send you masks in a discreet box if that would help. i want anyone that wants to mask to be able to do that bc it is that important to support and protect other disabled people and yourself
