Sometimes I hate being autistic because my brain is so easily swayed by rules, even though I hate rules. If it makes life simpler my brain goes “well those people said this. Maybe we’re wrong. Wouldn’t it just be easy to give in?” 1/2

And then adhd bursts in with a protest sign saying “individuality or DEATH” & an xl dirty chai tea latte.

I think an important part about the “rule following” symptom of autism that’s often misunderstood is that we follow OUR rules. Not necessarily the ones set for us. If a rule set for us makes sense, it becomes one of our rules, and thus we stubbornly follow it. Otherwise I will crash out if it doesn’t fit my imaginary rule I made up and everyone should be able to figure out on their own

I do both. Pretty sure this has to do with being a girl raised with autism but following the rules was always a thing I did and it translated to mentally too even in situations it shouldn’t. Been trying to break this tendency since I was 12 and some days it goes better than others.
