i went to a sex and communication event at my school last night and they kept stressing talking to your partner. i was just sitting there like?? are we not making sure our partners are explicitly stating that they want to engage??? how else would you even know if they want to or not????
It’s a privilege problem and a statistics one. Neurotypicals usually never have to try to read non-verbal cues or have misunderstandings because society is coded for them. So when they meet people that are neurodivergent, they get a lot of misfires of social signals, sending and receiving. That frustration and miscommunication can lead them to being very hurtful to us. Also, more neurotypicals means it’s easier to meet an asshole.
because they think it’s okay to view different people as subhuman and treat them in any way they want as they usually don’t have consequences + the double standard of society (it’s seen as “cute” or “they like you!” “it’s not deep!) i am clearly neurodivergent and i have had to basically learn how to communicate or wtv and people act like i shot their baby in the face point blank when i am exhibiting ANY kind of symptoms. like damn, who shat in your cereal?
