Unfortunately the way to fix it is to just have it happen over again and to like force yourself to feel ok abt it. And also to have experiences of it not happening to outweigh the negative experiences. Which I also don’t know how to do #hell

PTSD from abusive relationship: -Therapy focusing on trauma -Honest conversation about my struggles and sensitivities and where they come from BEFORE agreeing to date -Continuing conversations whenever relevant during relationship -Letting relationship come naturally after a friendship -Making the conscious decision to trust what I’m being told by partner -With previous one, also communicating if I have trouble believing or trusting, but also making it clear there’s no expectations on their part

Cont. that last one opens up room for reassurance when needed, acknowledging your emotions, and also making it clear to partner that they didn’t do anything wrong -Get comfortable with the idea of being single/alone. Focus on yourself and finding happiness that way. It’s easier to let someone in if you don’t feel like you have to rely on them for you to be able to function

-Talk about communication styles with partner, both should agree to make an effort to adjust (my tone of voice is shit, so partner understands to not use tone as expression of emotion, and I also clarify the emotion before expressing something serious) -Be patient with yourself. Understand where your reactions and feelings come from and give yourself some grace. It sucks, but there’s a reason behind everything. You’re not broken for having difficulties, you are human. (This one took me a bit)

This is the kind of stuff that has helped me in my relationship. Going on four years now. There are still difficulties due to the type of trauma I have. But we work as a team and constantly have serious conversations about the relationship, how we’re feeling, and how we are making efforts to grow. You need to put in lots of effort, but if a partner isn’t willing to work alongside you then they aren’t the right one anyway

Seconding the thing about communicating when your struggling with trusting their affection without placing an expectation for them to affirm because it often becomes a compulsive behavior just to ask for affirmation, which doesn’t actually help it makes you more insecure abt it over time
